Wow! I think this is actually good news to be celebrated by
many Nigerian students who have been itching towards online learning.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) is launching a
pilot e-learning initiative with four approved universities in Nigeria.

We recall that the NUC has been against e-learning programs
in Nigerian universities except for that which is partially obtainable in
National Open University. The story line is however is different now.

The NUC e-learning program is a Public Private Partnership between the National
Universities Commission (NUC), Park Associates E-Learning Group, and four
federal universities.

This is aimed at providing new opportunities for students to
access university education in Nigeria.

The four Participating Universities are:

i. University of Uyo;

ii. National Open University of Nigeria;

iii. Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; and

iv. University of Maiduguri.

The following are the undergraduate programmes that are permissible under the
e-learning programme: Economics, Banking & Finance, Accounting, Business
Administration and Marketing for which they have requisite qualifications.

Note that the programme for is only available for candidates
who wish to obtain BSc Degree in Economics.

The Commission is assuring the public of the legitimacy of the Nigerian
Universities e-Learning Programme as endorsed by NUC.

The National Universities Commission is exploring this
avenue to increase access to university education without compromising quality.

Concerned parents, guardians, students and the general public may contact the
Commission or the stated universities for further clarification on the
Programme under reference.
