Abia State Polytechnic Begins Indefinite Strike
The Abia State Polytechnic, Aba is under lock and key as gates have been shut and classrooms locked against students of the institution as the institution begins another era of strike today.
The strike is not connected to the proposed ASUP strike but an internal action stemming from the nonpayment of staff salary accruing over 9months, according to some sources who spoke with us. This has forced the examinations of the OND 2 and HND 2 to be put on hold pending when the demands of the polytechnic staff are met and school reopened.
Speaking to Mrs. Clara, a senior lecturer in the School of Administration, she said the staff have been quiet enough and it is time we forced the hands of the government to come to us because they have long forgotten us. Although the school is generating regular income and has also placed a compulsory payment of school fees before writing exams, the institution could still not pay its workers.
Activities have been halted and we pray we do not experience another 6 months strike.
