The Sad Death of Angel O'Brien & the Ills of Cultism
The evils cultism has contributed to the education sector are enough to call a referendum on shutting down campuses for life but no one would agree with me because even secondary schools are now at the forefront of cult activities. It is really disheartening, pathetic and indescribably disgusting how dilapidating the situation has rendered our education sector. It is one out of the many evils in the system, if not the worst.
Only yesterday, the death of Mr. Angel O'Brien was reported. He was until 1:44pm, a final year Law student of the Imo State University, Owerri and was at the same time processing his clearance papers as he was soon due to leave the institution. It was another attack suspected to be related to cultism as he was shot dead inside a dry drainage at the IMSU Extension Gate at about 1:45pm.
l personally took a trip to his Facebook page after the break of the sad news and from all l could gather, he was a cool and loveable student but he still wasn't safe. l said he wasn't safe because we have continually seen, heard and read this type of occurrences where cultists are picked and shot dead just about when they are about to leave the confines of the university as graduates but the case of O'Brien could be either of two scenarios- he was a cultist and had been a target or he had offended some people and they wanted to serve revenge when it will taste sweeter. Yet, no amount of revenge is justifiable when it has to do with taking a life. Some appear so cool and at the same time so deadly when they are awoken by that fetish animal name they bear.
During orientation programmes in schools, institutions take the pains to hammer on the ills of cultism and its dangers to life but many students turn deaf ears to all of it. It is not possible to be at peace with all men all the time but it is possible to try not to step on people's toes. Try to be friendly as much as you can.
It is possible to avoid cultism, people have. We should never forget that cultism kills just as it has taken Angel and so many others. Please avoid it like a plague or you may die.

Don't be deceived, cultism brings no benefit! You are powerless once you join cultism... You become a prisoner of your actions... Beat them but don't join them... SHUN CULTISM!
Your future is your hands! The way you carry it determines where you will get to. Be careful!
Listen up youths, cultism is devilish, it is an organization where death warrants are signed and freedom is seized...
Dis Is Awful
This is a clarion call to all our youths both in and Outside Campus to shun cultism! Stop being destructive and start being productive.
