It is a life saver. All the way through the days in the boarding houses, it ranked number one on our tables in the refectory and we enjoyed it without an option.
So many people see it as an enemy when it comes to food yet l know a lot who has made it their best and when you see them, you will find out that they are basically students who lived to grow in love with this super delicacy.
If you are a student and has allowed campus life take its own part on you, you will by now know that life saver that l am talking about. It is none other than the master called beans.
Why students love this delicacy is not just that it is a life saver but many other reasons follow the deep admiration for this food and they include:
1. It doesn't need much to cook. With just your oil, salt, maggi, crayfish (optional) and onion plus the student's hot plate, food is ready.
2. It tastes better with time. The older it gets, the better it tastes and with little ingredients, the taste remains delicious.
3. It can be eaten in so many ways and students love the combination of beans and "otto" (garri) amongst so many other combinations with bread, custard, pap and others, even eba. and,
4. Students who can not buy and eat fish or meat on a regular basis take beans as a major protein giving delicacy and they are okay with it.
It is in fact, a love of students and go to a hostel, visit a lodge, check out on the boys, the students generally and their pots, you will always find a trace of one of the best delicacies nature has ever given.
How do you like your beans, for me, it is that one garnished with fried plantain, plus garri and chilled water.
